Week 4- The Final week

As discussed by us that we need to publish about the things that we have changed or have seen changes around us in the past 4 weeks and this week is the last and final week for us to publish about what changes we have seen or made. our main topic was about transportation and write about the impact that is created by consuming more fossil fuels and using more energy. These days, transportation systems are getting better day by day, Governments of all the countries are investing more on building better infrastructure and other transport facilities like, for example ,the introduction of Turkey’s new electric car -TOGG-, shows that Turkey have taken big step in dissemination of using electrical car and environmental friendly transportation system. Also students and employees were asked to use an environmental friendly transport system and walk as much as possible in-order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Students have shown their immense support by giving positive feed backs. At the end we have learned from this module that, how each steps taken by us in our daily lives creates an impact in the whole economy.

week 3

Transportation have another problem and that congestion and its high cost to the public or to the shippers of the goods and services. Due to more private cars and vehicles and more usage of public transport, people might see that there is more traffic and also the accident rates rises every year. As a result, using less cars or public transportation can mean that no damage done to the third party (people who are not using the public transports). If there is more traffics and congestion, we not only loose our valuable time but we also harm the environment and by staying on the road with the cars as they emit more carbon emissions.

So when ever it is possible to walk to the nearest place, we should walk or take a bike/bicycle, which will help us to be eco-friendly.

What can I change in a week?(week3)

Welcome to our series of “what can I change in a week?” in this text I will mentioned about line drying my clothes. Someone said that how line-drying clothes affect person’s footprint? However, it affect our carbon footprint. Holth(2017)[a1]  points out that dryer uses 5 times more electricity than washing, thus, by implementing  the traditional method of line-drying clothing we can save 30% of our carbon footprint.

There is dryer in my home I decided to use traditional method rather than dryer to reduce my carbon footprint.  I will  only use the dryer in an urgent situation.

week 2- observing changes around me.

As our topic is about transportation problems, this week I have noticed that, many students doesn’t take car or bus while coming to the University and this can create a huge impact on the environment and also the students themselves might have some health benefits. So as they walk to the institutes, the amount of carbon released to the environment reduces. As the students walk to university, it can increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones and reduce excess body fat. This as a result creates a positive impact on our ecological footprint as well.

What I you change in a week?

Through the one week I ate vegetarian food in my launch. This week I have decided to reduce my water usage. Kathryn (2018) said that only about %4 of water on the earth is the suitable for human consumption[a1]  which means that if humanity continuous to waste of water, they will face with a high dangerous situation a short time later. How to reduce my water usage?

There are many ways to reduce water usage but this week I will focus on taking shorter showers. If I spend less time in shower, I can save more water. According to Boston University[a2]  Sustainability 2 minutes less taking a shower saves 10 gallons water. Thus, do not ignore small step.

What can I change in a week? – ll

Hi my dear readers, welcome to my “What an I change in a week?” series. This week, I try to make something different in order to reduce my carbon footprint that is because of transportation. But it was a bit hard for me to make it a part of my life. Let me explain.

I live in a house that is approximately 6 kilometers far away from school. So it is too hard to walk here. Also, the weather is too cold to ride a bike to go to school. That’s why I cannot make any changes during this week but in spring or summer, I will use a bicycle in order to get to my destination.

That is all for this week, see you :))

What I you change in a week?

According to Greeneatz [a1] people who are a meat lover has the highest carbon footprint greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, farming produces nearly %30 of man-made greenhouse gas emission. Thereby, I determined to eat more vegetarian food. In fact, I realized that I can easily carry out my plan because. I eat my launch in AGU’s refectory in which two types of main food served one of them is vegetarian food while the other food mostly contains meat pieces. Unfortunately, I always prefer food contained meat pieces. However, from now on I try to get vegetarian food. Therefore, I could diminish my footprint by a quarter just by cutting down on red meats such as lamb and beef(Greeneatz[a2] ). Moreover, The Seattle Times stated that nature_based solutions can ensure more than %35 of the emission reduction. Do not forget little changes can make a big difference in protection of the environment.

Transportation Problem

Transportation system brings many advantages to our lives for instance thanks to it we can free up an amount of our time. However, transportation system burns petroleum. It leads to air pollution. I have decided to reduce my carbon footprint. I am student at AGU in Kayseri. My family lives in Sivas. Thereby, I commute between Sivas and Kayseri at weekend with Train. I prefer travelling with train due to ticket price plus it is more comfortable and enjoyable. However According to Wanderu (2018) [a1] while Buses’ average CO2 emission is 0.17 Ibs/passenger mile, Train’ average CO2 emission is 0.41 Ibs/passenger mile which means that travelling with by bus is more environmentally friendly than train. In fact, when considering other transportation system such as airplane and car – airplane’s CO2 emission is 1.83 Ibs/passenger mile and car’s rate is 1.17 Ibs/passenger mile–   Train and bus are more sustainable modes of transportation system than airplane and car.  Statics given above show that travelling with airplane rather than bus increases your carbon print by up to 13 times. Until now I try to commute with bus rather than train due to environmental awareness.

Travelling with bus maybe more expensive than train but to conserve environment and ensure a good environment for future generations we should make sacrifices.

WALK for YOUrself and the NATURE

We are students and we have lessons in the big part of one day. After school, we go somewhere by using bus or personal car. In the other words, we are siting almost whole day. This situation have negative outcomes such as health problems and some environmental problems because of using transportation vehicles. Focusing on the environmental outcomes, using transportation increase carbon emission that is the one of the most effective environmental problem. When we use any transportation, our carbon footprint is getting bigger. The main problem is doing nothing to decrease our carbon footprint

After realised the problem, I decide to do something. I joined a competition which is about walking. Phones are counting number of steps and an app using these datas then create it into a competition. After I joined it, I walked almost every place by walking. It encouraged me to walk. In one week, I walked aprpoximateliy two times more than previous week. I decreased the my carbon footprint. Also it has positive effects to our body health. After one week, I feel myself more energetic when i wake up.

Problem Definition for Transportation

As humans, we are exploiting the world in terms of everything. For instance, we are using fossil fuels to generate energy throughout the years and in this way, we are polluting the air that we have to breathe in order to stay alive. For me, the biggest issue that we have to deal with air pollution is transportation. We all want to travel easily, so we are using our private cars rather than buses. But more car means more carbon emission and more carbon emission means that we are going to suffer from more air pollution. It is dangerous for both short and long time. It can cause asthma, some types of cancer. According to some research, 3.5 million people are dying because of air pollution that is a result of transportation, by means the traffic density. It affects your heart, as well. Research shows that 24% of the people have heart diseases who face air pollution and who live near crowded roads. This situation increases the death rate by 76%.

In conclusion, transportation will be a huge problem if we cannot deal with it properly.
